چکیده

Arterial baroreflex control of the heart and peripheral circulation is markedly impaired in humans and animals with congestive heart failure. After reversal of heart failure in animal models, arterial baroreflex control of heart rate remains impaired for up to 8 months. Cardiac transplantation restores normal ventricular function and completely reverses heart failure, but does it normalize arterial baroreflex control of heart rate in humans? We studied baroreflex sensitivity in 11 patients with severe heart failure, six normal control patients, and 23 patients at 2 weeks to 4 years after orthotopic cardiac transplantation. Baroreflex sensitivity was assessed with intravenous bolus injections of phenylephrine and is expressed as change in RR or PP interval (msec) per millimeters of mercury rise in systolic arterial pressure. Atrial rate of both donor (denervated) and recipient (innervated) atria were measured in the transplant group. Baroreflex sensitivity in patients with severe heart failure was 2.0±0.3 msec/mm Hg, but

Mechanism of impaired baroreflex control in prehypertensive Dahl salt-sensitive rats.

Dahl salt-sensitive rats fed a low salt diet demonstrate functional impairment in baroreflex control of cardiovascular function prior to the development of hypertension. The purpose of this study was to identify the mechanism(s) responsible for impaired baroreflex control in prehypertensive Dahl salt-sensitive rats. To examine the central and efferent portions of the baroreflex arc, we electric...

The previous studies have shown that the endogenous opiate system depress the baroreflex sensitivity in morphine dependent persons. Nucleus Tractus Soloitarii(NTS) is the main termination site of baroreceptor afferent neurons. The aim of this study was to determine the role of electrical stimulation of Nucleus Tractus    Soloitarii on baroreflex sensitivity in morphine...

Autonomic and cerebrovascular abnormalities in mild COPD are worsened by chronic smoking.

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may develop hypercapnia and hypoxia, two main determinants of cerebral blood flow. The current authors tested whether cerebrovascular regulation was altered in mild COPD, modified by manoeuvres acutely improving autonomic cardiovascular modulation or influenced by smoking habit. In 15 eucapnic normoxic mild COPD patients (eight smokers)...

Relationship between arterial baroreflex, cardiopulmonary vagal reflex and renal natriuretic response to saline in conscious rabbits.

1. We have previously shown that normotensive rabbits with a genetic impairment in arterial baroreflex sensitivity showed a delayed sodium excretion and failed to increase their renal blood flow in response to a saline infusion that did not alter blood pressure. These renal haemodynamic and excretory abnormalities were abolished by renal denervation. The present study determined the sensitivity...
